hi again everyone!
so ive learned a bit about valentines day
and in doing so ive found its celebrated differently in different places? :o
and also in some places like japan
theres a corresponding holiday called white day!

so anyway my question today is do you celebrate valentines
and if so how
just out of curiosity
with absolutely no ulterior motive whatsoever

also exactly how many human holidays are there because so far there have been rather a lot of them my goodness
its almost like theres a holiday for every month
and there are at least five ways to celebrate each one
i think i need a chart

Well, whenever someone with enough influence in their society decides they want something honored, they tend to make a holiday of it. It assures that people will continue to remember the origin of that holiday. At least until another culture borrows it, lacking the context of the original society that created the holiday in the first place.

With so many cultures generating so many holidays, there winds up being a lot.

Japan adopted it from America. It might have been them. Presumably an American would know better than me.

I see, that would do it. In my world, Earth is the only planet known to have any life.

That's not the case in my world! Although there is an Earth there, and there are humans on that Earth.

Ummm, two thousand something? But it got destroyed, too, the original one.

Destroyed? That certainly hasn't happened to my world yet...

It's almost certainly a different universe, so I wouldn't worry!

I suppose you don't! But if you don't know what sgrub or sburb is, I wouldn't worry too much.

Fair enough. I suppose that given how many different Earths seem to be represented here, the likelihood of any two being the same is relatively low.

What holidays do Alternians have?

Well, the two that would make the most sense are....12th Perigree's Eve and Quadrant Appreciation Day!

They're kind of like Christmas and Valentines', but...not really.

I...never actually did! But I believe quadrantmates normally give one another gifts.

Not really! Just whatever that person likes, I should think.

So it's more like a birthday, I suppose. Interesting how there seems to be overlap between completely separate cultures' holidays.

Then again, gifts are a universally appealing way of showing appreciation, so it would be more interesting to find a culture that didn't give them.
