hi again everyone!
so ive learned a bit about valentines day
and in doing so ive found its celebrated differently in different places? :o
and also in some places like japan
theres a corresponding holiday called white day!

so anyway my question today is do you celebrate valentines
and if so how
just out of curiosity
with absolutely no ulterior motive whatsoever

also exactly how many human holidays are there because so far there have been rather a lot of them my goodness
its almost like theres a holiday for every month
and there are at least five ways to celebrate each one
i think i need a chart

Fair enough. I suppose that given how many different Earths seem to be represented here, the likelihood of any two being the same is relatively low.

What holidays do Alternians have?

Well, the two that would make the most sense are....12th Perigree's Eve and Quadrant Appreciation Day!

They're kind of like Christmas and Valentines', but...not really.

How do you celebrate the... [ uh ] Valentine's Day one?

I...never actually did! But I believe quadrantmates normally give one another gifts.

Any particular sorts of gifts?

Not really! Just whatever that person likes, I should think.

So it's more like a birthday, I suppose. Interesting how there seems to be overlap between completely separate cultures' holidays.

Then again, gifts are a universally appealing way of showing appreciation, so it would be more interesting to find a culture that didn't give them.

Well, in my world we sort of...created Earth. So there's a reason for taht where we come from!

[ Sorry we are putting aside the holiday talk for a moment because this is fascinating. ]

That was the point of a game we played. To create a new universe. We won, and did so, and then there were...well, complications.

And it got destroyed again?

Sort of yes and sort of no! We scratched the universe we made, to make it restart.

What did you change?

[timelymaid]

A very specific thing. In our world, those of us who became Players were made through genetic engineering and sent to our worlds on meteors. Half of us arrived in the time I was from, but half of us arrived much, much earlier. The scratch essentially swapped the arrival times, so that the players who arrived earlier arrived later, and vice versa.

Was that so important?

Actually, yes! You'd be surprised what one change can do to the history of an entire universe.

[ Not really, considering how parallel worlds work in his, but it has to be the right change to have a widespread effect. ]

And were you happier with that change?

[timelymaid]

I think it's definitely for the best!

Well, I suppose it would be quite a waste if you hadn't been happier with it, wouldn't it? Hee hee.

It really would be! So thankfully that isn't the case at all.
