eighth bubble; text.

hi again everyone!
so ive learned a bit about valentines day
and in doing so ive found its celebrated differently in different places? :o
and also in some places like japan
theres a corresponding holiday called white day!

so anyway my question today is do you celebrate valentines
and if so how
just out of curiosity
with absolutely no ulterior motive whatsoever

also exactly how many human holidays are there because so far there have been rather a lot of them my goodness
its almost like theres a holiday for every month
and there are at least five ways to celebrate each one
i think i need a chart

It has more to do with how the usage has changed, really. People are generally less religious on average than they used to be, so an expression that was once a more genuine invocation of the name is now a mild curse.

There are some saints with stories that don't end in execution, but martyrs do tend to crop up more often than people who didn't die horribly, yes. Who is the Signless, exactly? Aside from a martyr, I mean--that was fairly clear.

Well, it was just one of them, really. There are far more religions than that, and I suspect the ones here would be entirely different due to the presence of Pokemon.

So I see. Unsurprising, given the fate of a great deal of revolutionary movements--though, really, without knowledge of the breadth of the Sufferer's support and how well-armed his movement was, the opposite would have been equally plausible.

That doesn't surprise me, really. It's also entirely possible that the details would be wrong even if information hadn't been suppressed--I've learned that many details regarding several long-dead historical figures from my world are horribly inaccurate, and we have a great deal of information about them.

I learned about the actual discrepancies in my world's history in a fairly similar way, so I can certainly believe that. By this point, it seems like it's one of the few sources of information that shouldn't be taken with a grain of salt.

It really is. Then again, I know about plenty of things that the average person would consider unbelievable, so I'm less skeptical about the absurd to begin with. This place just pushes that even further beyond the admittedly flimsy boundaries I'd already set for myself.

Honestly, there are still some things I find difficult to believe, but they're mostly related to the present day in my world. They're not things that would be particularly relevant here, of course.

Absurd flights of fancy, for the most part.

[...colon p???]

Every world has its own particular limitations, I'm sure.
enjoymyatelier: but what would that even do. (gradients of babylon...?)

It's not as though time is something we're lacking in as long as we're here, so there's no reason why it can't be considered.

Yes, it certainly is. I'd hate to think of what would happen if time actually passed back home while we're here. I suppose it wouldn't be particularly disastrous for some people, but that wouldn't be the case for me.
enjoymyatelier: sola no (are you... checking him out)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2013-04-16 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not really something that bears thinking about, anyway, given that it doesn't happen.

Precisely. It's simply distracting, and nothing good will come of it.

Oh, yes, but there's a difference between tangents which are actually useful in some way and ones that are thoroughly pointless.
